Jonathan Dorse has been an accountant for over 10 years. During that time, he also trained and worked as a financial counsellor with The Salvation Army.

“I saw the negative impact a person’s financial situation can bring to their whole wellbeing, but also their resilience as they were able to bounce back through challenges life threw at them,” Jono says.

As a financial counsellor, he saw how often there was an unmet need for taxation support. That’s why he completed further studies in 2022 to become a Registered Tax Agent and started working with the UNSW Tax and Business Advisory Clinic in providing free, independent and confidential tax advice and business support to those who otherwise would not be able to access it.

“I see the strengths of the financial counselling model - the power of listening to a client’s story, working holistically to support them in setting and achieving their goals,” Jono says.

“I’d like to bring these into the tax and accounting profession through my own small business!”
